W.D.M.P. 2021: Getting Ready for the Season

Crews continue working hard to get camp up and running and operational for when the season starts.

This is only a snapshot of the amount of grass seed we are planting on the beach to reduce dust pollution, there are still several loads more ready for the season!

All the equipment and materials are starting to arrive in camp and will be positioned strategically to increase efficiency throughout the season.

Chu Cho Industries is moving trailers into camp so the isolation bunks are ready to receive people with the safest process.

As part of this year’s WDMP, Chu Cho Industries has purchased a new Haybuster 108C Drill seeder, a Wilmar S-500 fertilizer spreader, and a 10ft Mandako Landroller that CCI is customizing at its shop in Mackenzie. This equipment will be used to spread the custom WDMP grass seed mix and fertilizer during the 2021 season. As part of the 2021 WDMP, Chu Cho Industries plans to seed Middle Creek North, Middle Creek South, Van Somer, and Tsay Keh beaches, in addition to irrigating the two Middle Creek beaches and Tsay Keh beach.

The goal for the grass seeding is to establish a cover crop that will hopefully prevent the wind from being able to pick up sand off of the beach, making it airborne and creating a dust storm. The irrigation equipment will wet the beach to reduce dust, but also to water the grass, helping it better establish on the beaches.
